I am thrilled to be writing my first message to you all. Knowing that we will officially begin our journey as Pastor and People has filled me with such joy. It was such a delight to get to know you the members, friends, Brookside community, and staff, during our candidate weekend. During our weekend you’ve shared your personal stories, hopes, dreams, and concerns as you prepare to take the step on the journey of faith that God has for you. I’ll confess I’ve stopped by the Brookside Congregational Church, UCC more than once since our last formal gathering. I thank Pastor Marlayna for her graciousness for opening the door with a wide welcome. Each and every visit is a reaffirmation of God’s call to serve Brookside.

So you may be wondering what’s next? We are going to get to know one another. I want to learn more about Brookside’s story, your story, and I would love to share mine with you. Over the next several months the Search Committee will assist me in organizing small gatherings so we can get to know one another better in a smaller setting. As I enter Brookside, I am going to need your help! Ten years of ministry has taught me that each church has its own traditions, history, and story. So, I will need your help in learning Brookside’s traditions, history, and story.

Praise God for the growth that’s taking place at Brookside and it is my prayer that we will continue to grow together!

I offer thanks to God for the fabulous leadership of the Rev. Dr. Marlayna Schmidt who has provided an abundance of support to ensure that I will have a fruitful beginning at Brookside. Last, but certainly not least, I am incredibly grateful to succeed a true Pastor’s Pastor in that of the Rev. Dr. Dawn C. Berry who I’m blessed to call a friend and colleague.

Looking Forward,

Pastor Eric
